The World of #1

 

The apocalypse we all feared has come and gone. It started as a jumbled mix of economic collapse, environmental degradation, large and small scale warfare and downright panic. It ended when everyone was so confused by the overlapping cataclysms of the world that they just gave up on it altogether and found better things to do with their time. Now, without any modern infrastructure to rely on, each pocket of civilization is left to its own devices.

 

But in the picturesque small town called Potanka, post-apocalyptic life really isn't all that bad. This former mining town, isolated by long stretches of uninhabitable land, is worn in age but not in spirit. The hardworking country folk of Potanka have always used their own elbow grease to keep things running smoothly, so post-apocalyptic life for them is simply more of the same. And in a small town where everyone knows each other, by association and reputation, your contributions (or lack thereof) make a pretty big impact on the microcosm of society that Potanka has become.

 

 

The Tone of #1

 

Unlike most films of the post-apocalyptic genre, ‘#1 at the Apocalypse Box Office’ is bright, comedic, colorful and fun. In a world where the dust has settled and life is moving on, Jules's lofty dreams of heroic triumph can continue unabated. Survival is secondary to his artistic pursuit, and the strength of his determination sweeps his friends and family into the same frenzy of filmmaking.

 

But life outside Potanka has taken a different turn. There is a darker side to this world, one that will inevitably collide with the peaceful existence of Potanka. But even in the face of this adversity, the desire for love, friendship, and joy will overcome. Jules's seemingly meaningless need to entertain, may prove to be his greatest strength.

Even after a worldwide apocalypse, storytelling and creativity will still be around to encourage, to inspire and to help us continue on in the face of any challenge, no matter how great. Art will help us survive.
